Language arts

Vocabulary: words that unlock the rest of the page.

Academic vocabulary is the shared toolkit of school: analyze, compare, contrast, evaluate, infer, summarize, variable, thesis, evidence.

Students use context clues before the glossary. Morphology — prefixes, roots, suffixes — turns unknown words into solvable puzzles (photosynthesis: photo + synthesis). Content words are taught inside the subject: slope in algebra, allele in biology, amendment in civics.
