History: sources first, then the story.

History class is an argument about the past using evidence. Students learn the difference between a primary source (from the time) and a secondary source (later analysis).

Cause and effect are not the same as sequence. A timeline orders events; a paragraph must say how one event contributed to another. Map skills — legend, scale, compass rose — belong in every unit that names a place.
